Mr. Beck,
This is my strongest "Gun Rights" argument. I'm an Army vet and retired State Trooper. I've carried a gun as part of my employment my entire adult life. It's not just people in PA that looked up when Obama said "clinging to their guns and bibles." Yes I am, more so now than ever. To me, it's the only two things I know I can count on. I've never met a liberal that ever wanted to talk about the gun laws now on the books. They fought for them, got them and then stand and protect those who violate them. In my state we are a "State Police" which is entirely different than a "Highway Patrol." We have a few troopers assigned to concentrate on traffic law enforcement but most are assigned to a county where they answer 911 calls as traditional police only in the unincorporated or rural areas.. The major difference is that if you get a call on a murder, you work the murder, crime scene through court. We have no detectives to take over or wizards of forensics to come out for us.
Four out of the seven or eight counties I was assigned too, we worked one trooper per shift historically due to manpower / womanpower shortages. Two of those counties we would find ourselves being the only law enforcement working a shift in the whole county on many occasions. We were ALWAYS the only law enforcement that answered calls after midnight. You usually found yourself working evenings alone and then taking calls from your house or the office until dayshift and then you may work dayshift if someone was on vacation. One county had their deputies working day shifts (only) and would not come out after their shift was over. When I was a Detachment Commander I worked two evening shifts, one night call shift and a day shift alone. These are rural counties where getting anywhere fast is impossible. You could easily find yourself going to a "domestic" or "shots fired" call alone with your nearest backup forty five minutes or more away. My biggest fear on the way to these calls was not getting there in time. For some reason, just like a fire fight or other life threatening experience, you never worry about your own safety until it's over and you're back in your patrol car where the uncontrollable shiver hits you. Now here's the part that the hard core anti-gun pukes can't imagine as they sit in their cozy urban homes where 10 cops are two minutes away.
I can't count the times I have been working alone and received a radio call where someone is trying to bust down someone's door or some woman is calling saying her ex or soon to be ex husband called and said he was on his way to kill her and her kids. I realize I'm the only cop in the county so I must be the closest. I'm 40 long, hard minutes away. You tell the dispatcher 10-4, pray and white knuckle it all the way there. Sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't. Sometimes the husband or intruder beats you there and does what they threatened or close to it. Sometimes you get there and find a mess, other times you get there and the would be victim is standing over the dead body of the suspect or a blood trail you can follow because he or she had a means to defend his or herself. Yes a gun!
I would rather shoot it out everyday than find the body of an innocent mother and her kids dead on their floor because they didn't have a gun, because they were not legally allowed to own one, one to defend, to protect themselves when we can't. Our state is by no means unique. Every state has areas like this and most have the work force problems because somehow cops manage with what little they have. If we let a few innocent and "connected" people get killed our budget would probably increase rapidly. No way we'd let that happen. I would love to invite any Senator to spend the weekend in a home in a rural crime ridden area an hour away from help and a good chance, in a home too poor to have a phone.
Mr. Beck, if guns are outlawed or even limited further from decent, responsible people, the only rich people will be the gun runners because that $20 .38 caliber pistol's price will rise to about $200 dollars and every dirt bag will have a gun.The vast majority of law abiding people won't have one and every scumbag will know it. They will be helpless much like those in Cuba and Mexico. I don't like carrying a gun but I feel like I still have a duty even though I'm retired. I can think of many ways to die that would be worse than by a gunshot wound received saving a McDonald's full of hostages.
I want you to know that before the next gun law bill is introduced, each of my representatives and as many others as I can get to will receive a letter much like this one and it will also be advising them that any of them that vote for further firearms restrictions that infringe on decent people are lucky. We'll be passing out their business cards all over the state with their vote on the back just as a way of saying thanks. I'll provide the cards. I have a computer, and loads of free time and I'm herebye devoting all my time to those elite Washington liberals.
Thanks to Senator Boxer and those like her, many of us are fired up. We looked at all of them a little differently. We realized that as they sit four feet higher than the poor General or other decent servant they are treating like a six year old mentally challenged step child, grilling them with questions worded so that they can only reinforce" their" position and rudely cutting their answers off before the whole story comes out, we hired them! As they looked down their noses at those "little" people sitting below them, we realized, we can damn sure fire them as well. We can protest their speaking engagements, books and any other thing that may further their ample socialist ambitions or fatten their bank accounts. Most of all, we can very closely monitor their conduct and report back to their other bosses. We'll be reporting in frequently and please recruit for us. We did not create an organization. We didn't have to. Obama and his followers just made the mistake of reminding us that we are America and we own our own destiny whether it be blessed or damned and that's the way we like it. Watch out,we are slowly waking up,yawning and stretching, looking around and wondering who made this mess while we lazily dozed. We'll continue to grow and there is nothing the liberals or the Obama Youth can do to stop it as long as we stay focused, determined and united. We'll be in touch and from now on, napping with one eye open.
By the way, I believe that Germany still has a mandatory one or two year term of military service. AmeriCorp anyone?
Ok, there it is. So let's get back in gear and stop this madness before it's to late. Get together advertise your meetings, unload on your representitives and let them know you are giving them a chance to be responsible instead of political. They have to come back and live there sometime.
